One Health - Prof Moritz van Vuuren

A brief report
With support from the World Small Animal Veterinary Association, we were able to host a one day seminar delivered by Prof Moritz van Vuuren Professor in Virology at the Dept. of Veterinary Tropical Diseases, University of Pretoria.
Some of the subject areas include:
- One Health - with special reference to the role of the veterinary team
- Antibiotic stewardship - global trends and international expectations
- Determinants of antibiotic prescription and dispensing behaviour
- Antibiotic stewardship - multidrug resistance in companion animals
- A One Health approach to antibiotic stewardship
- Immunization - basic principles and new developments
The event was a success well beyond our expectations. Prof Moritz van Vuuren is not only an expert in his field but a very engaging speaker. He held the attention of the participants for the entire time. The subject area spans a wide spectrum of disciplines which attracted a correspondingly wide spectrum of participants.
Attendance was great. We were very fortunate that so many vets, students and other one health professionals were able to come.
We are very grateful to Prof van Vuuren for his time and expertise, and for this valuable opportunity afforded to us through the WSAVA CPE program.
